Dreams
Some people have the best dreams. They have these fantastical dreams about flying from place to place, none of it ever making sense, and then waking up in the mornings feeling like they’re returned from their imagination’s best wet dream. On most mornings, I wake up confused. Even my most outrageous dreams make sense. I guess I can’t escape my highly logical thinking, even in my subconscious. I remember once dreaming that I was thirsty and opening a 2 liter bottle of coke. I woke up thinking I had done that and didn’t realize it was a dream until I couldn’t find a 2 liter bottle of coke in my house.
Last night, I dreamt it was the apocalypse. Nobody called it that the dream, but there was definitely the kind of panic that resembled all those end-of-the-world movies that were so popular when I was in high school. I was with a small group of people and we were trying to figure out what to do next. We were sprinting through a mall, pushing through chaos. I remember my first suggestion was to head to higher ground. I wanted to go to one of the business high rises and wait it out (apparently I was still hopeful this wasn’t the end of the world). Another person in our group said we needed to get a car and get the hell out of there.
The parking lot was dangerous and I can’t remember why, but when we reached a car (whose car, I don’t know, I think someone broke in) I remember wanting my laptop that was sitting in the trunk of my own car. I don’t know why I’d need my laptop, but I know that I felt anxious as we tore out of the parking structure.
I woke up this morning feeling sort of empty, as if leaving my laptop behind in my dream world meant something more.
What about all of you? What kind of dreams do you have?
